The Whisper is a Speed 400 powered pylon racer. The wingarea is 150 square inch's and the aircraft weigh's 16 ounces. The complete airframe weight before painting and equipment installation is 4 ounces.
The airframe is constructed using balsa and plywood. The wing is all sheet ( 4.7% thick) and then carved. No foam wing to cut! It is not hard to carve the airfoil shape, just use a power sander carefully and it works out quite well.
Flying the Whisper is great fun! I can't get over the fact that a Speed 400 can provide such speed at such a small expense! This aircraft really grooves. It goes where pointed and must be flown at all times. Not to say that it is tricky, on the contrary you just need to be capable of flying fast non-correcting aircraft. Landings with the Whisper are no problem due to all the wing area. This is a very clean aircraft and the landings can really be stretched. I am happy with the way the Whisper turned out and I am looking forward to many more flights with it. Who wants to Race?

Great planes 30 amp speed control, I'd like a 15 amp to save weight.

Apc 5 x 5 propeller
30 mm aluminum spinner (part # MPJ 7018) available from Aircraft World
8 600 AE's, 8 He1100 or 8 KAN 1100, I've tried them all.

This is the updated Whisper we now call the "Growler". There are only subtle cosmetic changes to the airframe. You will notice the tip shape of the wings and stabilizers has changed. Looks even faster doesn't it. The real goal of this model was to fit lipo's into the airframe that will provide 30 amps of power to the motor. A far cry from the original Speed 400 powered Whisper. Flight testing is to commence soon and we'll see how the batteries really perform. The Growler can also be powered with nimh or nicad cells. The plans have been updated to show both versions.
